Marvel Comics’ first Abyss appeared during “mutation nation” explosion of X-Men related titles in the 90’s. The whole era is a morass of Dickensonian storytelling and cross-marketing so it’s not surprising that Abyss’ background seems a little jumbled, but he essentially is a living mutant/demon vampiric pokeball. He might have some personality traits as well.
