The Human Torch is a name used by a couple of people in the Marvel Universe.
Most of the time, it is referring Johnny Storm, the obnoxious kid brother in the Fantastic Four. As you might suspect, he generates and controls fire, using the power to fly and generally ruin the furniture all around.
There was an earlier Human Torch, though. During World War 2 Jim Hammond was the name given to the original Human Torch, an android. Fun fact: in the Marvel universe, the original Human Torch is credited with burning up Adolph Hiter! He is deactivated after the war and disappears, leaving Johnny Storm to hijack the name like he never existed.
What’s interesting is that Jim Hammond gets reactivated in the 90s and so both characters go on being the Human Torch at the same time, even though they look the same and have basically identical powers. Seems like someone should have sued someone.
