You might call them Sidekicks Anonymous, but they call themselves the Teen Titans. The idea may have begun as kitsch but with time and decent writing the team grew into more than a hero group with training wheels. Over time the storytelling became both more serious, in the comics, and less serious, in slapstick animated series.
Serious or not, as the characters slowly aged, they had to try some rebranding, trading the “Teen” for “New” Titans, and eventually just going win the not at all vainglorious Titans.
