With a name like Airman it is not surprising that he is a vertan golden age character. A new generation of supers who did more that just fly relegated him to a dark, dusty corner of the universe but becoming public domain breathed new life into the character.
In recent times he was both carried directly to the modern era from suspended animation in one format, and r
eimagined in a contemporary setting in another. For bird-themed people, I guess timing is everything.
