Master strategist, skilled martial artist, and general all-around badass, Bane is an arch-foe of Batman. He even broke Batman’s back once, which gets you a ton of street cred. And there’s something about a man in a Mexican wrestler mask that has made Bane one of DC’s feature characters, even though he is a relative newcomer to their cast. In fact, when Bane debuted in 1993, Batman had been crime-fighting for over fifty years, which makes defeating Batman sound like less an act of skill and more like pushing someone’s grandfather down the steps. 

His exact origin varies a bit from format to format, and even his powers. Generally he uses a chemical called Venom to enhance his strength and endurance, but sometimes it’s just something he uses to get by, like a male hormone enhancer.

And like a hormone enhancer, sometimes he takes too much and goes into a metahuman ‘roid rage.

But whatever the genre, he is always a foe to be reckoned with and he always manages to dress from the Freddie Mercury collection.
